Determination of the imatinib mesylate purity by differential scanning calorimetry
2018-07-11

Determination of purity is one of the methods of controlling active ingredient in pharmaceutical industry. It often requires using expensive reference materials and is a time-consuming one. A good way for determining purity of the substance, may be the use of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), the one of the thermal analysis methods, most commonly used in pharmacy. In these studies, the purity of six samples of imatinib mesylate, provided by various laboratories, was determined. The measurements were made by using the DSC method in accordance with ASTM E928-08 norm. The results of the study were compared with purity presented in the certificates of the substance. Additionally, an influence of both the heating rate and mass changes of samples on determined value of imatinib mesilate purity, was investigated.
