Orthorexia nervosa (orthorexia) is a recently introduced eating disorder characterized by obsessive and pathological concentration on consumption of only healthy food. Initially, the disease manifests itself in the desire to properly select the quality of meals by gradually eliminating selected foods from the diet. The main reason for the exclusion, most often mentioned by patients, is the adverse effect of some of the components, on overall health. The problem is worsening at the time of introducing very strict dietary restrictions. The consequence of the disease are serious health problems ultimately leading to a deficiency of nutrients, malnutrition and disorders of the digestive system. The paper presents the etiology of the disorder, methods of diagnosis and treatment. The demonstrated analysis indicates the need for further research towards the discussed problem.
