Technical solutions and software OPFARMSoftNova in the opinion of the pharmacy staff in community pharmacy – an exploratory study
2021-02-24

Background
Pharmaceutical pictograms are important tools that can improve the quality use of drugs and adherence, particularly among people with low health literacy. However, designing high-quality pharmaceutical pictograms requires a multi-step process to make sure that the pictogram is legible and understandable for patients. The success of this tool is associated with effective software and technical arrangement, both greatly contributing to the process of the implementation of pictograms into community pharmacy settings.
Aim of the study
To collect opinions of pharmacy staff working in community pharmacy settings in terms of software and technical arrangements accompanying ‘Lekolepki’ – pharmaceutical pictograms.
Materials and methods
Authorial questionnaire was distributed in online form among pharmacy staff experienced in the use of ‘Lekolepki’. Close and open-ended questions were applied. Data were analyzed quantitively based on descriptive statistics. Portions of respondents’ opinions are presented without detailed qualitative analysis.
Results
The study involved 42 respondents - employees of community pharmacies using the software to operate ‘Lekolepki’. 90.5% of the survey participants confirmed that the suggestions obtained from the installed system are useful for pharmacy staff. In the opinion of 92.7% of respondents, patients perceive the benefits of labeling medicinal products with pharmaceutical pictograms. The respondents also identified technical problems, including difficult patient service due to the installed software. Study participants indicated that the printing of pictogram labels remained an important domain for improvement.
Conclusions
The respondents found the technical solutions accompanying ‘Lekolepki’ satisfactory, although they indicated a significant space for improvement, such as facilitating the installation process or optimizing the printout. Further research, especially in the qualitative approach, is necessary to deepen scientific deliberations in this area.
