Drug forms with targeted release of active substance in colon. Improved bioavailability of numerous drugs, especially peptide construction drugs, can be obtained using their good absorption in the colon. Possibilities of pharmaceutical technology leading to obtaining targeted release drug forms, basically in the colon, were presented in the paper. ETP or Pulsincap drug forms were characterized using the release mechanism depended on pH and time. Such forms as CODES TM release the drug due to abundant bacterial microflora and auxiliary polysaccharide substances. Examples of drug forms using other mechanisms, such as prodrugs, bioadhesis or intestinal pressure controlled delivery were also discussed.
