Methods of essential oils obtaining. Volatile or essential oils - aetherolea - are secondary plant metabolites containing many different compounds. Essential oils occur in plants in specially developed organs. The oils are used for their therapeutic action, for flavouring and in perfumery. Large quantities of volatile oil are produced annually using different methods. The oils are obtained from plant tissue mostly by steam distillation (SD) carried out in different ways. However, there are some various methods used to obtain essential oils: solvent extraction (SE), enfleurage, Solid-Phase Microextraction (SPME), Supercritical fluid Extraction (SFE). The rules and methods for production volatile oils were compared.
