2006-11-01

Application of porphyrinoid photosensitizers in photodynamic therapy. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a modern method for treatment of neoplasia, macular degeneration and localized infections. The principle of PDT relates to the use of photosensitizing drug activated by a source of light. The combination of drug, light and oxygen results in localized photodamage and subsequent cell death. The aim of our short summary is to indicate recent progress in PDT and overview of current lines of research.
