Theophrastos of Eresos. In Poland, publications on the subject of ancient medicinal writings are typically concerned with Dioskorides, Plinius or Galen. Much less voluminous is research on Theophrastos of Eresos, who was the first European to write on medicinal properties of plants systematically. In order to compensate for this disproportion in the scholarship, the author of this article compiled some basic information on Theophrastos and his works, especially Perí fitón istorion (Knowledge of Plants), portions of which are addressed in the closing sections of the article.
