Badanie dystrybucji chlorku benzalkoniowego w fazach nowoczesnych submikronowych układów dyspersyjnych
2007-07-22

Investigation of benzalkonium chloride distribution in aqueous phases of modern dispersion systems. Antimicrobial preservation of modern lecithin-based systems (emulsions or aqueous dispersions) can be a challenging task due to an interaction of antimicrobial agents with lecithin and their distribution to different microscopic structures present in the formulations. The effect of surfactant (lecithin or polysorbate), type of emulsion (traditional or submicron) and oily phase (0% or 10%) on concentration of benzalkonium chloride in the aqueous phase obtained by ultracentrifugation or ultrafiltration was studied. The results indicate that benzalkonium chloride partitions mainly into the micellar phase of the systems.
