Advanced glycation end products (AGE) and their receptors (RAGE) are implicated in the pathophysiology of diabetic nephropathy, which is the most common case of end-stage renal disease, that requires dialysis or transplantation. This review summarizes recent discoveries concerning the targeted therapies focusing on inhibition of glycation products formation (AGE, TAGE) and inhibition of their interaction with the receptor.
