Zastosowanie druku 3D w farmacji
2016-02-08

Żywności i Leków (FDA).

Application of 3D printing in pharmacy

Production of medicines incorporating specific amounts of one or more active substances tailored to individual characteristics of the patient, requires the use of different technologies than already known in the pharmaceutical industry. Very promising solution is the use of 3D printing. Printing consists in forming objects by merging or applying successive layers of a suitable building material. Currently, 3D printers are becoming more common in medicine and life sciences. There are also specific examples of their use in pharmacy. In August 2015 there was some information that the first 3D-printed medication was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition, the source literature review shows that there are a number of scientific reports showing promising results of the implementation aspects of 3D printers in the production of drugs. These devices may be useful, eg. in the preparation of drug delivery systems. Also, there were studies using printed by 3D tablets of various shapes and with different surface areas. The variety of forms obtained is not possible to obtain by the conventional technological methods.
