If allowed to end up in the environment through uncontrolled means, medicinal products may affect it in a negative way, and, consequently, pose a risk to human life and health. For this reason, it is of the utmost importance, also in pharmacy practice, to understand the need to handle medicines which are expired, no longer necessary or damaged, in the appropriate way. This work discusses regulatory framework to do with the collection of pharmaceutical waste originating from households and indicates the need to introduce all the public pharmacies to the system of collection of expired medicines from patients.
