Prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics and postbiotics available on Polish pharmaceutical market – a review

The diseases in which the disturbed composition of the intestinal microbiome is observed include inflammatory bowel diseases, colorectal cancer and apparently nonintestinal diseases such as chronic kidney disease or allergic reactions. Scientific reports confirm that under physiological conditions gut microbiota ensures multidirectional health benefits. Therefore clinical trials focusing on the modification of the gut microbiome composition are undertaken in the prevention and treatment of many diseases. This article reviews selected oral prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics and postbiotics available on Polish pharmaceutical market, with products distinction between medicinal products, dietary supplements and dietary foods for special medical purposes.
