Diclofenac and its effect on cardiovascular system - the rightness of using OTC preparations

used remedies, available both over-the-counter or by prescription. Its mechanism of action is based on the nonselective inhibition of cyclooxygenases– both COX-1 and COX-2. Despite its good results, using diclofenac is associated with clinically relevant side effects. Many studies show that it may increase the risk of cardiovascular events. This work, based on the latest reports, is to prompt us to reflect on the appropriateness of the wide availability of OTC diclofenac preparations, taking into account the risk of serious adverse effects.
