Irritable bowel syndrome – current principles of conduct

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a chronic, most frequently recurrent disease of the small and large intestine, which affects 11,2% of the population. Despite the mild course of the disease, it makes the patients daily routine difficult and increases the medical visits frequency. Without knowing an effective drug therapy that allows a permanent remission of the disease, pharmaceutical care and a proper diet seems to be important factors in improving patients quality of life.
