Status of clinical trials evaluating effectiveness of the components of dietary supplements used during infertility treatment · Dietary supplements containing various substances are widely used by Polish patients, including infertility patients. Scientific evidence of the efficacy of selected substances in the treatment of infertility in women is based on animal experiments and a limited number of human clinical trials. It should be noted that the quality of scientific evidence resulting from their research character (e.g. blindness, number of patients participating in the study, multicentre research), and the interpretation of the results obtained may vary.
A particularly important aspect is the declarative content of substances in dietary supplements, which affects not only the quality of therapy but also the assessment of the clinical trial, and should not be neglected by patients and doctors.
Cooperation of pharmacists with doctors treating infertility in the scope of rational supplementation may not only protect the patient from unnecessary costs, but also prevent the use of measures reducing the effectiveness of treatment.
