Utilizing of „omics” techniques in modern anti-doping analysis

The speed of development of doping methods makes the methods used to detect them so far not good enough. Especially treacherous seem to be direct methods due to their short detection window. The „omics” techniques, which are rapidly developing in recent times, have come to the rescue. They are widely used in many fields of science and have also been appreciated in the fight against doping. Genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics seem to be ideal techniques for discovering biomarkers of the abuse of substances prohibited by World Anti-doping Agency (WADA). In this work, an overview of selected projects is presented and future strategies of more effective use of „omics” techniques in anti‑doping control are discussed. Their main aim was to extend detection window of recombinant erythropoietin, autologous blood transfusion, growth hormone or anabolic – androgenic steroids as well as detection of gene modifications.
