Adulteration of lavender essential oils (from Lavandula angustifolia) available on the Polish market
2025-10-31
Recent studies made by Polish scientists have shown that essential oil adulteration is widespread. At least 49% of lavender essential oils sold on the Polish market were adulterated. 43% of the studied oils contained synthetic additives, and as many as 14% of the oils had unnatural compositions that significantly differed from the profile of natural lavender oil – these were artificial mixes.
These findings raise doubts about the biological activity and safety of adulterated essential oils. Moreover, essential oil adulteration is a fraud against consumers and against honest manufacturers who are forced to compete on price with unfair competition in the market.
Keywords: lavender essential oil, GC, adulteration.
